Carsette

Smart phone docking port in a car for music, phone calls and voice assistant
UX, Product | 2017

Carsette is a smart phone docking port, with a familiar form of a classic cassette tape player that used to be in old cars. Carsette brings back old nostalgic memory with its docking experience. Instead of sliding in a cassette tape, driver slides the smart phone into the slot which automatically connects with the car. Once inserted, driver can play music, accept/decline phone calls, and activate voice assistant. Safely docked phone prevents it disturbing drivers while they are driving.

Idea

Cassette tape player in a car has become obsolete with rise of new technology. But we miss the analog feeling of pushing in square tapes to play music. We may be able to relive the old experiences by designing it a little smarter.

Design

Carsette has familiar form of a classic cassette tape player that used to be in old cars. Radio channel seeker has been reinterpreted to a timepiece, with retro feeling of buttons. DriverS can play music, accept/decline phone calls, and activate voice assistant.

When phone is pushed in, eject button pops out and automatically plays, just like old tape player. The color and shape of speaker is customizable according to the driver’s taste.
